چکیده

Background Type 2 diabetes and periodontitis predispose to a higher risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Recent studies show upregulation innate immuno-regulatory microRNA-146a -155 in oral fluids patients with type as well periodontitis. The aim was investigate whether these microRNAs may relate patient susceptibility the infection via modulation SARS-CoV-2 cellular entry factors expression. Methods Due limited experimental feasibility health risks Coronavirus Disease 2019, bioinformatic analyses combining system biology were used initial investigation interaction between microRNA-146 genes encoding factors. Results are expressed salivary glands masticatory mucosa (tongue) at different expression levels, comparable those measured lungs tonsil. MicroRNA-146 widely involved regulation enhance ACE2 modulate host immunity. Conclusions Diabetes- periodontitis-induced increase cavity is predicted upregulate angiotensin-converting enzyme expression, essential receptors, antiviral response. As it could suggest increased infectivity patients, additional protective measures for periodontists recommended.

Biomarkers of periodontitis in oral fluids.

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), the key enzymes responsible for matrix degradation, are derived from polymorphonuclear leukocytes during the early stages of periodontitis. The present study determined the levels of GCF matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and salivary MMP-8 in patients with gingivitis and periodontitis and in healthy controls. Levels of crevicula...

Correlation of Oral Health Status and Salivary Antioxidant Capacity in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Objective: Dental caries is considered as one of the major complication of diabetes mellitus. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) demonstrate evidence of oxidant–antioxidant imbalances in their biological fluids such as saliva. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation of oral health status and salivary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in T2DM. Materials and Methods...

Effects of Dentifrice Containing 2% Atorvastatin and Oral Ascorbic Acid in Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis

Background and purpose: Ascorbic acid is an important antioxidant and its depletion is a risk factor for periodontal diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of 2% atorvastatin dentifrice and ascorbic acid on improving clinical periodontal parameters in patients with chronic periodontitis. Materials and methods: This clinical trial included 72 patients with moderate and severe chronic...
